Our beginning

Little Greenfields Preschool has a long-standing history within the local community, with over 50 years of providing care, play and early education for young children.

Our journey began in 1972, when we were first established as Greenfields Playgroup. Over the years, the setting grew and developed alongside the needs of local families, later becoming known as Greenfields Preschool.

In September 2012, we began a new chapter as Little Greenfields Preschool CIC, building on the strong foundations and values established over the years. While our name and setting have evolved, our commitment to providing children with a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment has remained at the heart of what we do.

Today, we now operate from St. Michael’s Hall on Crewe Street, following our relocation from Greenfields Church due to its closure. Although our premises have changed, we continue to provide a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment for children and families across our local community. We remain conveniently located within easy walking distance of Shrewsbury Town Centre and local primary schools.

Early Years Foundation Stage

At Little Greenfields Preschool, our curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which guides the care, learning and development of children from birth to five years. We provide a play-based, child-centred curriculum that reflects each child’s individual interests, needs and stage of development. Through a balance of adult-led activities and child-initiated play, children are encouraged to explore, investigate, create and develop new skills at their own pace.

Our learning environments and activities are thoughtfully planned to support all areas of the EYFS, while giving children plenty of opportunities to develop their independence, creativity, communication, confidence, physical skills and relationships.

Learning journey

At Little Greenfields Preschool, we use Tapestry to keep you connected with your child’s learning and experiences throughout their time with us. Your child’s individual learning journey is recorded on Tapestry and includes observations, photographs, artwork, experiences and progress updates, giving you a special insight into their time at preschool.

Tapestry also allows us to share care diaries, reports, preschool updates and newsletters, helping you to stay informed about what is happening at Little Greenfields.

We encourage parents and carers to be actively involved in their child’s learning journey. Through Tapestry, our newsletters and information around the preschool, we share ideas, activities and useful information to help you continue your child’s learning and development at home.

Children with special needs

All children are warmly welcomed and valued equally, and all have individual needs that we work hard to ensure are fully met. Some children have very specific needs that relate to their health and general development. These needs may include particular routines the child must follow to ensure their continuing health and well-being. Our staff has been trained to enable them to support all children. If you would like more detailed information, we will be happy to talk with you about your child’s specific needs, and to plan with you how these may be met.

The setting

Our bright and welcoming room has been thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of children at different stages of their development. The space is divided into two areas: Butterflies for our 2–3-year-olds and Dragonflies for our 3–4-year-olds, allowing children to learn, explore and develop at a pace that is right for them.

Both areas provide a variety of engaging opportunities for children to develop their independence, creativity, confidence, communication and social skills through play. Children can choose from activities such as imaginative play, dressing up, construction, books, creative experiences, puzzles and games, while also having opportunities to develop practical skills and make their own choices.

Fee payments

Preschool fees are payable on the 1st day of each calendar month and can be paid by Standing Order. If you would prefer to pay your fees on a weekly basis, this can also be arranged. Please speak to Sarah, our Preschool Manager, to discuss your payment options.
